The BEST after-school program serves around 80 students at Howard Elementary School. BEST provides an extended academic program, enrichment activities, a fun and safe place to be and a meal for students who are participating. There is no charge to participate.
Students enjoy enrichment activities such as Strings, rock climbing, cooking, art, bike mechanics, dance and playing sports. BEST partners with the City of Eugene Recreation Department, Oregon Arts Umbrella, Oregon State University Extension and many other organizations who provide staff and services to make this program available.
Enrichment Activities
Crazy Sports by Ashlee and Jessie
Students will learn sportsmanship and skills while playing different sports from around the world.
Creative Cooking by Linda and Stephanie
Follow directions, understand cooking terms, make food, learn about good nutrition, and anything that involves food.
Super Science by Christie and Rex
Students will do fun filled science activities that will introduce scientific thinking, hands-on work, and anything that involves science. (Biology, astronomy, geology, chemistry, etc.)
Broadway by Rachel and David
Anything and everything that has to do with Theater. The students will be learning about different types of plays, participate in acting, create props, write poems and reflect on plays and musicals.
